OUR APPROACH SHAPES THEIR EXPERIENCE
tEEPA SNOW’S: POSITIVE APPROACH TO CARE®
Combining practical skills with knowledge, we become better care partners.
Using an understanding of how dementia may affect vision, speech, movement, and thinking - while also recognising the retained strengths. Teepa Snow’s GEMS® model helps us see these abilities at every stage, and uses practical skills including Approach, Connection and the use of the Hand-under-Hand® technique to truly support.
Most importantly, we don’t just help our loved ones shine, we shine alongside them!
DEMENTIA CARE MAPPING™
An observational tool to understand the experience of someone living with dementia. Grounded in the ‘Flower of Psychological Needs’, it highlights how each interaction can act as a personal enhancer or detractor to a person’s sense of self. By recognising this, we can better support and maintain personhood, improving quality of life.
NAMASTE CARE™
Care, companionship and engagement, with a focus on creating moments of connection, comfort, and joy.
It builds on the strengths and interests that remain, emphasises the engagement of all senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste) while staying open to the hope and surprise that each moment can bring.
Always aiming to honour the individual spirit within.
Originally designed for later stages and end of life, it has since grown to support people at every stage of dementia.
VALIDATION TECHNIQUE
Naomi Feil’s Validation Method is about joining your loved one in their world instead of trying to pull them into ours. Rather than correcting or challenging their reality, we listen with empathy and accept their feelings as real. This builds trust, reduces stress, and helps them feel valued and understood.
CONTENTED DEMENTIA
Developed by Penny Garner, this wrap-around care model promotes lifelong contentment and wellbeing. Using a Photograph Album analogy, the SPECAL® method offers a compassionate alternative to a 'common sense' approach that can unintentionally cause distress. It focuses on feelings over facts, hones observation skills, and shares simple ‘golden rules’ to support daily interactions and quality of life.
